How to record perfect squats for Cadoo
To record squatups that earn maximum Credited Reps on Cadoo, you need a side-facing camera, full depth (hips below knees), and full extension standing up. CadooVision grades every squat on depth, lockout, and torso position. Get those right and your form score — and your Credited Reps — go up.
Camera setup
- Prop your phone vertically on a flat surface
- Enough room that you can squat fully inside the frame
- Face sideways to the camera — left or right
CadooVision measures your knee angle and torso lean from the side.
Start position: standing tall
- Feet shoulder-width apart
- Toes pointed slightly out
- Chest up, shoulders back
- Weight on your whole foot
The rep: hips below knees, full extension
- Sit back and down. Hips move back first, then down. Chest stays up. Knees track over your toes.
- Hips below your knees. Full depth — go below parallel.
- Drive through your heels. Push up and forward to return to standing. Full extension. That's one rep.
What CadooVision measures on squats
- Depth (40% of score) — Knee angle at the bottom. 90° or less = full depth.
- Lockout (25% of score) — Knee angle at the top. 160° or more = full extension.
- Torso (35% of score) — Chest upright. No forward collapse = full torso score.

Common squat mistakes that kill your form score
- Shallow squats — not going below parallel. Kills depth score.
- Not standing fully up — stopping short at the top. Kills lockout score.
- Forward collapse — chest dropping forward. Kills torso score.
- Knees caving in — not a form score penalty, but a mobility issue worth fixing.
Squat tip: full depth wins
Half squats at high speed look impressive but they tank your form score. Full depth with control beats fast, shallow reps every time on Cadoo.
Frequently asked questions about squats on Cadoo
Do I have to face sideways?
Yes. CadooVision measures your knee angle and torso position from the side. Front-facing squats don't generate a valid form score.
What counts as "below parallel"?
Your hip crease drops below the top of your knee. In CadooVision's scoring, this corresponds to a knee angle of 90° or less.
Can I do jump squats or weighted squats?
Yes, as long as the movement pattern is recognizable as a squat (full depth + full extension). Weights don't change the form score as long as your body mechanics are correct.
Does the practice rep count?
No. Your squats only count after you pass the practice rep. See How Cadoo Practice Mode Works.
