Cadoo doesn't just drop you into a recording and hope for the best. First it asks for one practice rep — a quick form check that unlocks your real set. It's the single most important step in a guided workout, and here's exactly how it works.
One clean rep to unlock recording
After you're framed up, the coach asks for a single, slow rep of your exercise — "one slow pushup, chest to the floor," "one slow squat, thighs to parallel," and so on. As you move, it coaches the two halves of the rep: the effort ("now down slow, chest to the floor") and the return ("and press back up").
Cadoo scores that rep on the spot. Clear the form bar and recording unlocks immediately — "that qualifies, great form, recording your real set now." Come up short and you'll try again.
Pass, retry, or reset
The practice rep has three outcomes:
- Pass — your rep clears the form bar. Recording unlocks and you roll straight into your set.
- Just under — the coach tells you to tighten up and give it one more. You get another go.
- Not dialed in — after a few misses, Cadoo stops you with a friendly reset: get your form right and come back for it. There's no bypass — and that's the point.
Why gate recording on a practice rep?
Because the practice rep sets the habit for the reps that count. It's graded on the same form standard your real set is scored on (see how Cadoo scores your form), so nothing surprises you mid-set. You learn the depth and range Cadoo is looking for while there's zero pressure — before there's money on the line.
It also keeps games fair. Everyone clears the same bar before recording, so a completed Cadoo set means real, full-range reps — not speed reps that wouldn't get credited anyway.
Frequently asked questions
What score do I need to pass?
Your practice rep has to clear Cadoo's form bar — a clean, full-range rep. If you're just under, the coach will have you try again.
What happens if I keep missing?
After a few attempts Cadoo pauses you and suggests resetting your form and coming back. It's a nudge to get set up right, not a penalty — you can jump back in when you're ready.
Do my practice reps count toward my game?
No. The practice rep only unlocks recording. The reps that count are the ones in your recorded 60-second set.
